A buttonhole cutter is a device, which is similar to an awl, but differs due to the flat, sharp end which is used to cut the fabric between the buttonhole itself. Often people use a seam ripper and not a buttonhole cutter to complete this task.

What is Bearding?
Bearding is a quilting term is used to describe the effect created by the occasional popping of batting through the holes created by needles used to do the quilting. The effect of this is an appearance, which resembles a beard on the fabric. Bearing becomes more of a problem is neutral or white batting is used with dark colored fabrics.
